# The best Hiya alternatives for Android in 2026

Hiya is one of the biggest names in spam protection. It also powers the caller ID and spam warnings in Samsung's Smart Call. The free app shows caller ID and lets you block and report numbers.

People usually go looking for an alternative for one of three reasons:

- **Screening costs extra.** Hiya's Call Screener is part of Hiya Premium, not the free app.
- **Hiya decides for you.** Hiya says its screener asks who's calling and then connects, blocks or ends the call. Some people would rather read what the caller said and make that call themselves.
- **Caller ID for personal numbers is limited in Europe.** Hiya says identifying individual phone numbers isn't available there, for privacy reasons.

## Quick comparison

| App | What it's best at | Screens unknown callers | How you pay |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Hiya** (for reference) | Caller ID and spam warnings | Premium only | Free basic app, Premium subscription |
| **Who's Calling + SPAM Guard** | Reading what the caller says, live, before you answer | ✅ Yes, you see their words as they speak | No subscription: a one-off plan, or a 10-minute trial for 49¢ (US) |
| **Google Call Screen** | Free screening on Pixel | ✅ Yes, on Pixel phones only | Free, built in |
| **Truecaller** | Caller ID from a huge number database | ✅ With the AI Assistant | Subscription for the Assistant |
| **RoboKiller** | Blocking robocalls, Answer Bots | Yes | Subscription |
| **YouMail** | Replacing your voicemail, US spam blocking | Advanced screening on paid plans | Free, with paid plans |
| **Nomorobo** | Blocking known robocallers | Blocks, rather than screens | Subscription after a free trial |

## 1. Who's Calling + SPAM Guard: see what they say, then decide

Hiya's screener makes the decision. Who's Calling + SPAM Guard hands it to you. When an unknown number rings, the app asks the caller who they are and why they're calling. You read their words live while your phone is still ringing. Then you answer, take a message, or block them and mark them as spam.

- ✅ Works on Android phones from any brand, including Samsung, Motorola, Oppo and Pixel
- ✅ Spam-risk score on every unknown caller
- ✅ The caller's language is detected and translated into yours: 56 caller languages and 56 reader languages
- ✅ Contacts ring straight through and never use minutes
- ✅ Caller audio is never recorded or stored
- ✅ No subscription and no ads. Try it for 10 minutes for 49¢ (US; your local price is on Google Play)

**The catch:** setup takes one call-forwarding code from your carrier (the app shows you the exact code), and it's available in a growing list of countries.

## 2. Google Call Screen: free, if you have a Pixel

Built into the Phone app on Pixel phones. It answers, asks who's calling, and shows a live transcript. Google says automatic screening works in Australia, Canada, Ireland, the UK and the US.

**The catch:** it's Pixel only.

## 3. Truecaller: if caller ID is what matters most

Truecaller's strength is putting a name to unknown numbers. Its AI Assistant can answer calls and show what the caller says in real time, but it needs a paid Premium plan. Availability varies by country.

**The catch:** screening is behind a subscription, just like Hiya.

## 4. RoboKiller: if robocalls are the main problem

RoboKiller focuses on blocking spam and is known for "Answer Bots" that waste telemarketers' time. It's sold as a subscription after a free trial.

**The catch:** an ongoing subscription, and it's built mainly around US robocalls.

## 5. YouMail: if you want a new voicemail too

YouMail replaces your voicemail and blocks spam using a large US spam network. The free version covers spam and robocall blocking. Paid plans add advanced screening that asks unknown callers to identify themselves.

**The catch:** it's built for the US.

## 6. Nomorobo: simple robocall blocking

Nomorobo blocks calls from a large list of known robocallers and telemarketers. It lets useful automated calls, like school closures, through. There's a 14-day free trial, then a subscription.

**The catch:** it blocks known numbers rather than screening new ones, and it's built for the US.

## Which Hiya alternative should you choose?

- **You want to read what the caller says and decide yourself, without a subscription:** Who's Calling + SPAM Guard.
- **You have a Pixel in a supported country:** Google Call Screen is free.
- **You mostly want a name on the screen:** Truecaller.
- **You're in the US and robocalls are the problem:** RoboKiller, YouMail or Nomorobo.
