# Is there anything better than RoboKiller?

RoboKiller is a strong spam blocker. On Android it can screen unknown callers by asking them to identify themselves before your phone rings, and it shows you their answer in real time. It also blocks spam texts, and its "Answer Bots" waste spammers' time with long recordings.

Whether something is "better" depends on what you need. These are the usual reasons people look elsewhere:

- **It's a subscription.** RoboKiller says it's free to download, but you need a subscription to use it, after a 7-day free trial.
- **Your callers don't all speak your language.** If family, customers or tradespeople call in other languages, you may want screening that translates.
- **You only need a free basic filter.** Most Android phones already have spam filtering built in.

## Quick comparison

| App | Best for | Live screening | How you pay |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **RoboKiller** (for reference) | Blocking spam calls and texts, Answer Bots | ✅ Yes | Subscription after a 7-day free trial |
| **Who's Calling + SPAM Guard** | Screening with no subscription, translated into your language | ✅ Yes, word by word while your phone rings | One-off plan, or a 10-minute trial for 49¢ (US) |
| **Google Call Screen** | Free screening on Pixel | ✅ Yes, on Pixel only | Free, built in |
| **Your phone's spam filter** | Free basic protection on any Android | No, it labels or blocks known spam | Free, built in |
| **Truecaller** | Caller ID | ✅ With the AI Assistant | Subscription for the Assistant |
| **Hiya** | Caller ID and spam warnings | Premium only | Free basic app, Premium subscription |

## 1. Who's Calling + SPAM Guard: screening without a subscription

Like RoboKiller, Who's Calling + SPAM Guard asks unknown callers who they are and why they're calling. You read their words live while your phone is still ringing, then answer, take a message, or block them. The difference is how you pay, and what happens when the caller speaks another language.

- ✅ No subscription and no ads. You buy a plan once on Google Play, and you can try it for 10 minutes for 49¢ (US)
- ✅ The caller's language is detected and translated into yours: 56 caller languages and 56 reader languages, with the translation done on your phone
- ✅ Spam-risk score on every unknown caller
- ✅ Contacts ring straight through and never use minutes
- ✅ Caller audio is never recorded or stored
- ✅ Works on Android phones from any brand

**Where RoboKiller is ahead:** RoboKiller also blocks spam texts and has Answer Bots. Who's Calling + SPAM Guard is only for calls.

## 2. Google Call Screen: free on Pixel

If you have a Pixel, Call Screen is already in your Phone app. It answers, asks who's calling and shows a live transcript. Google says automatic screening works in Australia, Canada, Ireland, the UK and the US.

## 3. Your phone's built-in spam filter: free on any Android

On phones that use Google's Phone app, go to Settings, then Caller ID and spam, and turn on "Filter spam calls". On Samsung Galaxy phones, go to Phone, then Settings, then "Caller ID and spam protection", and turn on "Block spam and scam calls". These block or label known spam numbers, but they don't tell you what a new caller wants.

## 4. Truecaller and Hiya: if you mainly want a name

Both are caller ID apps first. Truecaller's AI Assistant can screen calls with a live transcript on a paid plan. Hiya's Call Screener is part of Hiya Premium.

## So, is there anything better than RoboKiller?

- **You want screening but not a subscription:** Who's Calling + SPAM Guard.
- **Your callers speak different languages:** Who's Calling + SPAM Guard translates what they say.
- **You have a Pixel:** try Google Call Screen first. It's free.
- **You want calls and texts covered by one app:** RoboKiller is still a good choice.
