Know who's calling before you answer

Guide

# The best Truecaller alternatives for Android in 2026

Truecaller is best known for caller ID. It shows a name for unknown numbers using a spam list that millions of users keep up to date. The free app has ads; Premium removes them. Truecaller's AI Assistant can also answer calls for you and show what the caller says in real time, but that needs a paid plan.

People usually look for an alternative because:

- **They don't want ads** in the free app.
- **Screening costs extra.** The Assistant is part of a paid plan.
- **A name isn't enough.** Knowing it's "Unknown business" doesn't tell you whether it's the clinic, the school or a scam. Hearing why they're calling does.

## Quick comparison

| App | Best for | Live screening | How you pay |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |

## 1. Who's Calling + SPAM Guard: know why they're calling

Truecaller tells you who a number might belong to. Who's Calling + SPAM Guard asks the caller. When an unknown number rings, the app asks who they are and why they're calling, and you read their words live while your phone is still ringing. You also see a spam-risk score. Then you answer, take a message, or block them.

- ✅ No ads and no subscription. You buy a plan once on Google Play, and you can try it for 10 minutes for 49¢ (US)
- ✅ The caller's language is detected and translated into yours: 56 caller languages and 56 reader languages
- ✅ Contacts ring straight through and never use minutes
- ✅ Your contacts are read on your phone and never uploaded
- ✅ Caller audio is never recorded or stored
- ✅ Works on Android phones from any brand

**Where Truecaller is ahead:** it can show a name before anyone speaks, and it works for outgoing lookups too. Who's Calling + SPAM Guard is built around screening, not a name directory.

## 2. Google Call Screen: free on Pixel

Built into the Phone app on Pixel phones. It answers, asks who's calling and shows a live transcript. Google says automatic screening works in Australia, Canada, Ireland, the UK and the US.

## 3. Samsung Call Screening: free on the newest Galaxy phones

Samsung added AI call screening with One UI 8.5. It launched on the Galaxy S26, and Samsung is bringing it to the Galaxy S25 range, Z Fold7, Z Flip7 and TriFold. It answers with a digital voice, asks for the caller's name and reason, and shows the conversation as text. Other Galaxy phones don't have it yet.

## 4. Hiya: free caller ID and spam warnings

Hiya's free app gives caller ID for businesses and known spam numbers, and lets you block and report. Hiya says its Call Screener is part of Hiya Premium.

## 5. RoboKiller: calls and texts

RoboKiller screens unknown callers with a live transcript, blocks spam texts, and has "Answer Bots" that waste spammers' time. It's a subscription after a 7-day free trial.

## Which Truecaller alternative should you choose?

- **No ads, no subscription, and you want to know why they're calling:** Who's Calling + SPAM Guard.
- **Pixel, or the newest Galaxy flagships:** try the free built-in screening first.
- **You just want a free name and spam warnings:** Hiya, or your phone's built-in spam filter.
- **Spam texts are a problem too:** RoboKiller.
