Call screening on Samsung Galaxy phones: every option
Which call screening your Samsung has depends on the model. The newest Galaxy flagships now screen calls automatically. Most other Galaxy phones, including the popular Galaxy A series, have only part of it built in. Here's what each Galaxy can do, and how to get full screening on any of them.
Quick comparison
| Option | Which Galaxy phones | What it does | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Call Screening | Galaxy S26, and the S25 range, Z Fold7, Z Flip7 and TriFold with One UI 8.5 | Answers, asks name and reason, shows the conversation as text | Free, built in |
| Bixby Text Call | Supported Galaxy models | You tap "Text call" and type replies; Bixby reads them out and you read what the caller says | Free, built in |
| Smart Call (caller ID and spam protection) | Most Galaxy phones (Samsung says not every carrier or model) | Shows caller ID and blocks known spam and scam calls | Free, built in |
| Who's Calling + SPAM Guard | Every Galaxy, and any Android brand | Answers unknown callers automatically; you read their words live while your phone rings, translated into your language | No subscription: a one-off plan, or a 10-minute trial for 49¢ (US) |
1. Samsung Call Screening (newest flagships)
Samsung added AI call screening with One UI 8.5. It launched on the Galaxy S26, and Samsung is bringing it to the Galaxy S25 range, Z Fold7, Z Flip7 and TriFold. It answers with a digital voice, asks the caller for their name and reason, and shows the conversation as text. You can take over at any time. It's reported to cover 13 languages, but what's available depends on your region.
Look for it in the Phone app's settings after the One UI 8.5 update. Menu names vary by model and update.
The catch: Samsung hasn't confirmed it for older or mid-range Galaxy phones.
2. Bixby Text Call (supported Galaxy models)
When a call comes in, tap Text call. Bixby tells the caller it's an automated voice, reads out what you type (or a quick response you pick), and shows you what the caller says as text. Turn it on in the Phone app's settings first.
The catch: you have to start it yourself on each call. It doesn't screen unknown callers automatically.
3. Smart Call: block known spam (most Galaxy phones)
Open Phone, tap More options (three dots), then Settings, then Caller ID and spam protection, and turn it on. Then turn on Block spam and scam calls. Smart Call is powered by Hiya.
The catch: it stops numbers already known as spam. A new number, or a real caller you don't know, still rings through with no explanation.
4. Who's Calling + SPAM Guard: full screening on any Galaxy
If your Galaxy doesn't have Call Screening, or you want it to work in your language, Who's Calling + SPAM Guard adds it. When an unknown number rings, the app asks the caller who they are and why they're calling, and you read their words live while your phone is still ringing. Then you answer, take a message, or block them.
- ✅ Works on every Galaxy, including the A series, and on any Android brand
- ✅ Automatic for unknown numbers. Contacts ring straight through as normal
- ✅ The caller's language is detected and translated into yours: 56 caller languages and 56 reader languages
- ✅ Spam-risk score on every unknown caller
- ✅ Caller audio is never recorded or stored
- ✅ No subscription and no ads. Try it for 10 minutes for 49¢ (US)
Samsung tip: Samsung phones have an extra battery setting. During setup, the app shows you how to let it run in the background so Samsung doesn't put it to sleep.
Which should you use?

- Callers in other languages: Who's Calling + SPAM Guard translates them into yours.
